23 weeks down, 17 to go

Just a pictorial update of how things are progressing.

And a profile shot

Interestingly, this shirt is one I bought on sale at The Gap over christmas and it's NOT in their maternity line. Thank goodness fashion is flattering the pregnant woman, eh?

Only a little more than two weeks and I'll have been pregnant for half a year...frightening thought.

I'm sorry, Twerpy, but your brother insisted that I somehow post this and this. Don't say you weren't warned!

First Check-Up

So, SuperSchwarm's first check-up, via ultrasound, was today. Walter was there, too and we had a very nice ultrasound technician (who bore a slight resemblance to Britney Spears's mother which was freaky).

I had to drink 32 oz of water an hour beforehand and then NOT go to the bathroom which I think was the hardest part. They had warm lubricant, but I think cold would've been better--something about someone spreading warm liquidy gel on your very full bladder seems like medieval torture to me!

Anyway, she went over SuperSchwarm with a fine toothed comb: examining heart, lungs, kidneys, spine, umbilical cord, placenta, feet/toes, hands/fingers, brain, mouth, nose--the whole works! SuperSchwarm looks healthy--no cleft palate, no club feet, or anything else I was laying awake worrying about. We even got to see the baby open and close its mouth. Very cute! The technician also said that the baby had the same lips that I do, so apparently the Chalmers genes run strong in this one! Will be interesting to see how all the parts turn out in August...

She was kind enough to print out several pictures for us to share with friends and family. So, I took a picture of the printouts with my digital camera and have posted them below. SuperSchwarm's second photo session:

Profile shot (you can see the baby's ear and strong jawline)

Fingers & toes (the baby had his/her hands and feet together so all you see are little fingers and toes together)

the "merman" shot. On the left is the baby's nose and mouth--it was from this angle that we saw the mouth opening and closing but the angle does make the baby resemble a merman, I think. The two orbs on the right are its hands. So, you're basically looking directly at it.

And to answer everyone's lingering question:
NO WE DID NOT FIND OUT THE SEX--YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL AUG JUST LIKE WE DO!

Can you see the difference?

Inaugural Post

Here's my first try at sharing our excitement of the impending arrival of our baby, SuperSchwarm, in August 2008.

Currently s/he is a work in progress.
