Baptism

Walter and I had Louisa baptized on Sunday, Sept 28th while my parents were here to share it with us. We took pictures with Mom's camera and with my camera, but the low light inside the sanctuary made taking pictures difficult. So, these are the best of the bunch:

Another family was having their daughter baptized that day as well.

Rev. Cox sprinkling water on Louisa's head.

After the service, we posed for these photos in front of the baptismal font.

Louisa was **very** good for the entire service! She slept pretty much straight through the entire thing. She wasn't a big fan of getting her head wet but she settled back down and went right back to sleep. Toward the end of the sermon, she started getting restless because she was getting hot in her dress, but luckily, the service was almost over by that point. She wore my baptism dress from 33 years ago and it fit her very nicely! We'll have to keep it so that her daughter can wear it again someday...

More family photos

Here are a couple of photos from our portrait studio session a couple of weeks ago. I just got the email with the links to our images. The actual prints should be ready Oct 5th.

Smile!

7 Week Update:
Louisa is starting to smile back when you smile at her. It's absolutely the most adorable thing you've ever seen. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures or video of it (yet!), but I will post them as soon as I am able to capture them! (she's really happy when she wakes up in the morning, so I'll try to get some video tomorrow morning)

I'm glad, too, that she started to smile before Mom and Dad left for home (this morning), so that they could experience how wonderful it is to see her smile. Can't wait for her Oma and Opa to experience it for themselves, too!

In case you were curious...

...SuperSchwarm is getting SUPER-sized! This afternoon Louisa weighed 11 lbs, 4.5 oz and was 22.25 inches long! (for those of you on the metric system that's ~5 kg and 56.5 cm)

Grandpa!

My dad arrived yesterday afternoon for a four day visit and I have a few pictures from last night:

getting a little fussy!

6 week update

A day late, but better late than never, right?

Louisa is now 6 weeks old and weighed 10 pounds, 14 ounces yesterday afternoon. She has already outgrown some of the "newborn" sized clothes that she was wearing when we brought her home from the hospital, mostly in the torso. She's gotten a lot longer, but I don't have a measurement of exactly how long. She hasn't lost any of her hair, but it is getting lighter. Her eyes have darkened to a bluish grey, so I suspect that they might turn hazel (like mine).

Behavior-wise, she's MUCH more observant than she was even just a week ago. She's looking around a lot and will even look into your eyes (instead of staring at your forehead or chin). Her focus is getting better, too. She loves staring up at the exposed beams of our ceiling--I think because the beams are dark brown and the ceiling is white so there's a nice contrast/pattern there. She also likes staring at trees and out the window, too. We are encouraging lots of tummy-time on her playmat to strengthen those neck muscles and hopefully start turning over earlier.

And, she's just almost ready to smile, I think. She certainly responds when you smile at her--her eyes crinkle at the edges and her mouth moves, but it's not a full-blown smile...yet!

She's a total snuggle-bunny, too. She loves to be held against your chest, esp where she can hear your heartbeat. She can take naps for as long as 4-5 hours, but it's not a regular occurrence. Walter and I are lucky if we get a four hour stretch at night followed by a couple of three hour naps. Hopefully that will get better as time goes by.

Daddy's Beddie-Bye

Louisa and Walter went to bed early this past weekend while I stayed up a little bit to finish visiting with Mom and Nanny. This is the sight that greeted me when I walked into the bedroom (apologies for fuzziness, I was shooting in low light):

Awwwwwww!

Four Generations

While my grandmother was here, all four of us (Nanny, Mom, Louisa, and I) went and had a professional portrait done. Louisa was SO well-behaved until approximately 10 minutes before our photo shoot began. Then, she cried and wanted to be fed the whole time. So, the best pictures of us all show Louisa with a pacifier in her mouth. But, the pictures turned out really well and I can't wait to share them.

After we got back home, Walter also took a few "candids" of us, too. The professional shots won't be ready until Oct 5th, so to tide you over until then, here are a few from last night:

Breakfast!

Gotta love the candids, huh? Look closely at the forearm, my friends....

Grandma Photos!

My grandmother, Nanny, has been visiting this week and I was able to snap a few photos of one Josephine with the other. We think it's pretty special to have both generations together in our family.

And here's a sweet one of Mom and Louisa in her favorite pose. She's very much the snuggle-bunny!

Mom and Nanny went with me for my post-partum visit yesterday and I took these in the waiting room. (everything was fine btw). Dr. Gillot wanted to take a picture of Louisa and me for his wall and will send us a copy--I'm thinking baby book.

Videos

Here are a couple of short videos (shot with my digital camera) that I recently uploaded for everyone.

playing on her playmat:

an episode of the hiccups:

Muscles!

Look at those *strong* neck muscles! Louisa's ability to hold her head up is SO much better than it was even a few days ago!

Boppy Photo Shoot

Walter put Louisa down on the chair in the nursery last night while she was still lying on the Boppy pillow and the resulting pose was too cute to resist!

Check out those fat rolls!!

See what I mean??

IKEA stroller derby!

Mom, Louisa, and I went to IKEA this afternoon, mostly to get out of the house. Plus, it allowed us to use the stroller and stretch our legs a little. I snapped a few pictures of Louisa in her stroller by the checkout while Mom ran out to the car to get some bags (so we could save $0.10--yeah, yeah, I know--I'm cheap!).

A picture of the mechanical ensemble:

Closer....

The Money Shot!

Yes, that IS a burp rag stuffed behind her head. She was sleeping with her mouth wide open when we walked in and a well-meaning Indian grandmother (in a full sari no less) told us that we should prop her head up...and then wouldn't leave us alone until we did so. Propping her head up did shut her mouth (which apparently would cause dry throat according to the Indian woman) and we left it that way until we got to the car. (didn't know if we were going to accidentally run into the baby Nazi again)

Funny thing--I was more worried about a bug flying into her mouth than I was about her getting a dry throat??

Activity Mat

As my birthday present this year, Mom bought Louisa an activity mat that you place on the floor. There are lots of things to look at and play with, allowing plenty of tummy time to develop strong neck muscles.

Here are a few pictures from this afternoon. She definitely likes it better on her back than her tummy right now!

But, Mom didn't forget my b-day this year either. I now present my last b-day cake that I won't have to share with someone else born in August....

It's a Dr Pepper cake (with pecans on half)! Just like grandma Chalmers used to make....

Ombudsman

My Aunt has registered a complaint that there have NOT been enough new pictures posted since this weekend. Never let it be said that this blog does not respond to reader criticism. So, in an effort to please the more vocal (and powerful) members of The Family, here are some of the latest photos of the newest family member:

Louisa having her first bottle (she took it like a champ!). We put her multivitamin in the breastmilk, easy-peasy!

Louisa having her bath

And, finally, here are a few pictures from us cooking dinner this evening:

Picture quality varies because some were taken with my camera and some with Mom's.
