And it gets weirder....

This is what we were treated to this afternoon:

Should I be concerned....

.....about someone's possible career choice if she enjoys rolling around in money while wearing nothing but underwear?

She found my old growler from a now-deceased brewpub in Fort Collins (HC Berger for those who are interested) and emptied all the change onto my bed. I tried to turn it into sorting and counting practice by separating out all the various coins into their own piles (nickels and dimes were hardest) and then counting them.

But all Lulu really wanted to do was just roll around in pennies.

Sigh.

Name

Lulu has recently started voluntarily naming her stuffed animals.  Up to this point, the only toy with a name was Bow Wow (previously known as Purple Puppy).  Now, however, she will pick up a stuffed animal and say, "His/her name is ______."  And the names are pretty hilarious.

Walter brought her back a little black Hello Kitty cat from his grand adventures in DC/LAX.  Her name is Sophia.  (okay, yeah, so that one's pretty normal)

The big stuffed bulldog from IKEA is named Covivi.  And another stuffed dog's name is Kaweewah.

Who knew that Lulu was apparently part Cherokee??

ETA:  The interesting thing, too, is that her names are quite stable--if you ask her the IKEA bulldog's name a few days later, she still says Covivi.  No idea where she came up with that one!

Cold and Nakedness Don't Mix

The rescued stray kitten continues to stay in his Romanian orphanage (no toys, no bonding) of the guest bathroom, so Lulu took a shower with me last night.  On her way to our bathroom, this is the sight Walter and I got to enjoy:

Our own version of Lady Godiva....
And this morning, it actually felt like we might conceivably experience autumn sometime in the near future. Lulu had insisted on wearing the ultimate of her "princess dresses" and I thought, "Why not? She's bound to outgrow it soon anyway and she might as well enjoy it while she can." But the combination of the dress and the brisk weather meant that she was complaining about the cold once she stepped outside. So, I went back in and got the purple sweater jacket that Auntie Kate knit for her last winter:

This is her giving me a smile on our way into Merryhill this morning.

Three Year Old Check-Up

So, Lulu and I went to her annual 3 year old check-up with the pediatrician this morning.  She didn't appreciate the annual flu shot in her left thigh, but she did get a band-aid and six (6!) Disney princess stickers.  They also attempted a hearing/vision test on her because they are starting to learn phonics at Merryhill and I wanted to make sure that if they are stressing the sounds letters make that she can hear them.

Given my own horrible hearing, this is *my* issue, I know, but regardless, I wanted to make sure that she was starting on an even playing field with the rest of her class.

She was too young to really sit still long enough to do either test, but she got a couple of stickers anyway.  And here are her stats/percentiles:

Height:  39 inches (1 meter for you Europeans) = 89.75 percentile for other kids her age
Weight:  40 lbs 8oz (18.371 kg) = 97.46 percentile

Clearly what we have here is a failure to thrive, folks.  I was disappointed to learn that they stop measuring head circumference at 2 years, so all I have is height/weight measurements now.  And did I mention that she's wearing size 11 shoes?

If she grows to fit her feet, then I think we might have an amazon on our hands.

Ten Years Later...

...the loss some suffered becomes even more poignant.

Smoothie Ice!

Shaya and her mama Tina came over on Saturday afternoon for some swimming and play-time with each other and the rabbits.

On a side note: Lulu tried to give me a heart attack this past weekend, too. She didn't want to wear her "water wings" on our walk to the pool, and Shaya decided that she wanted to wear them instead. So, we walk through the gate to the pool, pull some chairs over into the shade and start unloading towels, etc. out of our bags. At that point, I glance over and see Lulu run down the stairs, into the pool, without any type of floatation device and start to drown.

Yeah, seriously. Drown.  Once she reached the bottom of the stairs, she was in water over her head and started to flail.

She was moving her arms and legs and gasping for air and getting nothing but water.  When I got to her, she was aspirating the bunny grahams that she and Shaya had eaten on the walk over to the pool.  I didn't think and just reacted--I ran into the pool after her (still fully clothed and with shoes on) and pulled her out. I think the whole episode was maybe 5 seconds and that was only because I was wearing flip-flops and couldn't run that fast. She didn't cough up water and appeared to be breathing normally and I didn't have to do CPR, etc. (Thank god b/c I don't know that I could've, but at least Tina's a nurse!)

Anyway, so that was an especially scary moment and it took a good half hour for the adrenaline to fade and for my heart beat to slow down.  Sort of.  I don't think you ever forget that look of panic on your child's face though.

And she's fine.  I swear.  No worse for wear, but hopefully equipped with a healthy respect for the pool.

Afterwards, we played on the playground for a while to let our swimsuits air-dry and then went back home to have some play-time in the backyard before dinner. Tina shot this photo of them sharing "smoothie ices" with her iPhone.

The girls had some competitive eating--who could eat the most spinach and cheese tortellini--while the adults had meatballs with tomato sauce over polenta with fresh green beans and a green salad.

Sing-A-Long

Tante Hellen and Onkel Derek came over for dinner on Friday night and Lulu was SO excited!

First she and Hellen put clippies in her hair and adorned themselves with jewelry.

every clippie, bow, necklace, bracelet, and watch was put on

I love the expression on her face--jewelry is SERIOUS business!

Eventually, after dinner, Onkel Derek also got "geschmuckt" with jewelry, too:

Onkel Derek looks like he belongs in an Arabian harem

And then it was an Old McDonald had a Farm sing-a-long:

By the time I started the camera, they had already done the regular animals like cows and horses, so you get to hear the more exotic animals living with Old Man McDonald.
